Eric Johnson

Co-Owner and Principal

As a second generation lighting designer, Eric Johnson’s career spans over thirty-five years. After working in the family lighting business since high school (Artistic Lighting & Electric), which included years of lighting design, manufacturing and installation of framing projectors, and later working as a lighting designer with Spectrum Engineering in Salt Lake City, Eric established his own firm, Eric Johnson Lighting Design, in 1995. In 2000, he created Eric Johnson Associates, Inc. (EJA) and began hiring a team of lighting, controls and CAD professionals.

Eric’s projects include both interior and landscape lighting design for high end residential and exclusive commercial properties. Areas of expertise include lighting for traditional to contemporary architecture, designing sophisticated lighting control systems, and evaluating and incorporating the latest energy efficient lighting products/technology.

Eric has collaborated with world-renown architects and designers, managed projects across the U.S. and abroad, and has advised many lighting manufacturers and lighting technology companies on product design, functionality and technical viability. His work consistently wins respect from colleagues and has garnered a solid reputation in the lighting design industry.

Kimberly Johnson

Kimberly Johnson

Co-Owner and General Manager

Kimberly joined EJA in March 2000 as our first office manager. Her prior work experience includes Fair Isaac & Co. where she was a product marketing manager, Tandem Computers as a retail industry marketing manager and other software companies throughout the Bay Area where she held various marketing positions. She currently manages all Finance/Accounting, Operations, HR, Marketing, and contract negotiations at EJA.

Kimberly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida with an emphasis in Marketing. When she isn’t working, she enjoys hiking with her dog, doing yoga and traveling around northern California.

Markus Wolf

Senior Associate Lighting Designer

Markus joined EJA in February 2000 as our first associate, while finishing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. He was promoted to senior associate in the Spring of 2005. Markus has managed countless high-end residential and commercial projects, supervising all phases of the lighting design. His recent projects include managing the lighting design at several high end wineries.

Markus’s prior experience in custom lighting manufacturing brought specialized product knowledge to the EJA team. In addition, Markus brings an extraordinary attention to detail to every project in which he is involved. He has been a member of the IESNA since 2005.

When Markus isn’t working, he enjoys biking and hiking on Mt. Tam and staying informed on the latest automotive technology.

Margit Yasukawa

Senior Associate Lighting Designer

Margit joined EJA in December 2005 as an associate and was promoted to senior associate in the Spring of 2011. She brought 20 years of lighting experience to the team, formerly working at Bay Lighting & Design. She also worked at Casella Lighting for many years where her range of experience included showroom management, sales and specifying decorative fixtures for many residential and commercial projects. Margit brings an amazing amount of energy and positive attitude to the many projects she manages.

Margit holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design from the University of California, Davis, and is an American Lighting Association Certified Lighting Consultant and Lighting Specialist. She has served as a board member and officer of The Lighting Forum and has been a member of the IESNA since 2007.

Stephanie Jackson

Stephanie Jackson

Associate Lighting Designer

Stephanie joined EJA in June 2014 and brought over 20 years of experience in the lighting industry, as a designer and project manager for high end residential and commercial properties in the Bay Area. She is also our resident spec writer and Title 24 expert.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and she has taught “Fundamentals of Lighting” at a few local community education programs. When Stephanie isn’t working, she enjoys hiking in the woods, reading, chicken farming and traveling with her busy gymnast daughter.

Oliver Trixl

Associate Lighting Designer

Oliver joined EJA in February 2015 and had over 7 years of experience in the electrical field & in programming lighting control systems. We consider him our lighting controls guru. While managing his own lighting design projects, he also designs our clients’ control systems and creates their initial programming. Oliver is our “Steady Eddie,” even the toughest projects don’t rattle him.

Oliver holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in German and a law degree from Vermont School of Law. He is also a member of the IESNA.

Travis Jernigan

Senior Draftsman

Travis joined EJA in April 2012 as a draftsman with many years of experience as a systems design engineer, designing and drafting low voltage electrical systems for a home automation company. In his prior experience he was also a systems designer with a commercial HVAC control company and an engineering firm. He has had specialized instruction in AutoCAD & Electrical Training Programs and we think he is the fastest drafter in the WEST! Travis was promoted to senior draftsman in November 2016.

When Travis isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his son, cruising on his motorcycle, camping and attending live music events.

Justin Johnson

Justin Johnson

Draftsman

Justin joined EJA in June 2014. Prior to joining our team, he was a member of the tech support team at the De Young Museum in SF and previously with Apple Computers. In addition to drafting, Justin is our resident AGi32 expert for creating conceptual lighting renderings and doing footcandle calculations, and has a CAN DO attitude for anything on the computer. Justin also builds our lighting mock-ups and assists our team doing final lighting adjustments.

Justin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University. He has had extended instruction in AutoCAD and in AGi32. When Justin isn’t working, he enjoys rock climbing, biking and cooking.

Heidi Mullan

Project Manager

Heidi joined EJA in October 2015 as a Project Coordinator and was promoted to Project Manager in February 2017. She was a design assistant prior to joining EJA and has other project and office management experience in the construction industry. Heidi manages the budgets and scope on all of our design projects.

After graduating from the University of Georgia with a BA in English, Heidi spent almost a decade in the mortgage business in Atlanta. She enjoys hiking, exploring wine country and trying to keep up with her teenagers.

Mikki Wilson

Office Manager

Mikki joined EJA in September 2015 as a temp and became an employee in November 2015. Mikki brought 15 years of office management experience at several companies throughout the Bay Area.  Prior to joining EJA, she worked as a marketing/sales associate at Tri-Sales Marketing based in New York.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Colorado State University and a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling from the University of San Francisco. When Mikki is not at work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her 3 children.
